More often than not, while surfing the web on your Android phone, you may have experienced a sudden drop in internet speed.

Pages take forever to load, videos get downloaded in KBs/sec and most of your favorite apps don’t even open up.

I know I’ve faced that situation a lot and if you did too and want to know what to do when that happens, there are some easy solutions anyone could try and get their proper internet speed back.

Why Does the Internet Slow Down on Your Android Phone?

Before moving forward with solutions, it’s really important for you to know why sudden speed drops in your Android’s internet happen!

The most common reasons could be a poor connection in your area, network congestion, or too many apps running in the background.

Now, that we have some range of understanding about our problem, let’s check out what we can do to increase the internet speed in our Android phones.

10 Tips to Increase the Internet Speed on Your Android Phones

The following tips may or may not work, especially in the case of any maintenance from your ISP, it’s usually advised to confirm with other users with the same ISP to know whether it’s just your device that’s causing an internet issue or a maintenance timeout from your ISP.

1. Toggle the Connection On and Off

Toggle off and on your internet connection. This has a chance to refresh your original network settings. In most cases, performing this simple procedure clears every issue.

You could also just tap on and off your airplane mode. That works too.

2. Try Different Browsers

Try using different web browsers because different android phones work better with different browsing apps. Yes, that’s a thing.

You may have to shop around (not literally, since almost all of them are free) but a different browser could work like a charm for your Android’s slow internet speed.

3. UseAd Blockers

Many Android browsers come with their own in-built ad blockers. If you do not have one you can easily get one from Google Play Store.

Turn your ad-blocker on and keep it that way always, because pop-up ads can slow down your internet speed.

4. Remove Cache Overload

If you have a large amount of unchecked cache just bulking up somewhere inside your Android device, you must get rid of it quickly.

Cache memory not only consumes your memory space but also slows down your internet.

5. Stop the Background Apps

Some of the apps run in the background while consuming both your Android’s battery and the internet speed.

It is heavily advised to go to your phone’s Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network and see which app is consuming the most data.

Then go to your App List and click on the individual apps you want to stop from consuming background data.

Toggle off the Background data on each one of them.

Or you could simply go to Settings > Network & Internet > Data Saver and toggle on the Data Saver.

This will stop any app from using background data when not in active use.

6. Don’t Auto-Update

It’s always a good advice to update your Android phone manually and never put Google Play Store updates (or any other ones you might have) to Auto-Update.

Auto-Updates consume a lot of data and hog down your internet speed.

7. Text Mode in Browser

I, personally, use the text mode in my Opera Mini whenever I’m using the internet for reading purposes.

That way speed gets unusually faster. If you use your Android phone internet to mostly read on the internet, try switching on the text mode of your browser.

8. Set Data Prefer

In your Settings, under the Wireless and Network section, set your GPRS to Data Prefer (aka Maximum Loading Data) option.

This would make your phone download a max amount of data per website so your browser works faster and loads quicker.

9. Select LTE Network Type

LTE is perhaps the most practically fast network right now. So, make sure your device has this network type selected.

Go to Settings > Preferred Network Type and click on ‘Prefer LTE’.

10. Reset Network Settings

If all else fails, it is finally advised to reset your Network Settings. Make sure you have chosen LTE Network type before doing this.

Go to Settings > System/General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Finally, click on “Reset Settings”.

Conclusion

Most slow internet problems do not need to go to the last resort as described above. But, I wrote down all there was. Hope you got your fast internet back on your Android phone.

Come back for more tips and advice, thank you.
